St Lucia
 
 

St Lucia is an underwater paradise. The island enjoys a stunning variety of corals, sponge and marine life. Artificial reefs have developed around a number of sunken ships and are home to gorgonians, black coral trees, gigantic barrel sponges, purple vase sponges and black lace corals. Exploring the underwater world reveals several turtles, nurse sharks, seahorses, angel fish, and golden spotted eels.

The Soufriere Marine Management Park running along St. Lucia’s southwest coast has enabled effective scientific research and in some instances had limited success in improving fish stocks. The consultative and proactive approach that involves all users including fisherman, tourism sectors, community leaders, governments and NGO’s which has enabled effective collaboration of stakeholders and the establishment of management control based upon principles of sustainability.
